When consuming carbohydrates the key word to remember is whole, as in whole grains. The less refined a carbohydrate is, the healthier the option it becomes. What is a refined grain? The refining of a grain (similar to white breat) results from the removal of germ and grain kernel. When food is refined, naturally occurring nutrients and minerals are lost. Whole grains on the contrary are full of vitamins, minerals, and fibre. Because of the fibre content in whole grains wone will consume less, adding to satiety. Look for breads with a fibre serving of at least three grams. Remember to choose whole grain pastas, breads etc. Eat and consume carbs the healthy way!
Easy thought to remember:
WHITE = MORE REFINED = LESS NUTRIENTS, MINERALS AND FIBRE
